Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) is preparing for his return to television with an untitled Apple TV+ series that will “explore topics that are currently part of the national conversation and his advocacy work,” as CNN reports. It will be Stewart’s first TV project since leaving The Daily Show in 2015.
Thus far, major details of Stewart’s upcoming series have not yet been revealed, however, it is expected to begin production next year. Stewart has earned 20 Emmys for his 16 years as host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, ultimately becoming one of the more notable faces in the political satire realm of the television industry.
After leaving The Daily Show, Stewart has since been featured in CBS’ The Late Show alongside Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report) and has directed a political comedy film starring Steve Carell (The Office, The Morning Show) entitled, Irresistible. In 2015, he began four-year production deal with HBO which was meant to result in an animated series with Stewart as the lead which would comment on current events. However, the project was scrapped in 2017. Most recently, Stewart has become an outspoken activist for 9/11 first responders.
Stewart will executive produce his upcoming Apple TV+ series alongside Richard Plepler, the Former Chief Executive Officer of HBO who just recently signed production deal with Apple.
