John Stamos’ New Memoir Revealed That He Begged To Leave ‘Full House’ And Rejected A Role On ‘Nip/Tuck’ After It was Called Demeaning to Women by Rebecca Romjin

According to Variety,  in John Stamos’s (Grandfathered) new memoir If You Would Have Told Mehe goes into many parts of his life that many fans didn’t expect, from his upbringing to his first acting role to even being the beloved Uncle Jesse in Full House. In the memoir, there are many laughable moments as well as moments with hardships and heartaches. In his book, he speaks on how he begged to leave Full House at one point and how he rejected being on Nip/Tuck because Rebecca Romjin (X-Men) called it “demeaning to women.’’

According to Variety, before being everyone’s beloved Uncle Jesse on Full House, Stamos was Uncle Adam and he clearly expressed his unhappiness with it. The show at the start of its career was not met with great ratings and Stamos almost got his wish.

Stamos wrote, “The final scene calls for the whole cast to gather around a baby’s crib and sing the theme song to The Flintstones. By the time we get to ‘Have a Yabba-Dabba-Doo Time,’ I’m having a Yabba-Dabba-Don’t Time. The reading ends, thank God, and I head to the lobby as fast as I can, avoiding everyone babbling how great the reading went. I dig through my pockets for change. I jam a quarter into a pay phone, get my agent on the line, and gently suggest, ‘Get me the fuck off this show!’ I’m dying to pull the rip cord on this family-friendly hell, but I’ll fulfill my contractual obligation to shoot the pilot. Keep it professional. The thing will crash and burn faster than my reputation, and I hope I can salvage some dignity with my next project. For now, stay cool. Control what you can control.”

He continued,  “Then my agent says, ‘Okay, so there was an idea discussed, but we’re not sure you’re going to like it.’ ‘Why?’ I ask. ‘They’re talking about putting one of ABC’s biggest hits as your lead-in over the summer reruns, but . . .’ ‘But what? With that simple strategy, Full House lands in the top ten throughout the summer. We find an audience and they follow us to season two.”

According to Variety, not many fans knew that Stamos was meant to be in FX’s psychological thriller Nip/Tuck created by Ryan Murphy (Glee). Stamos was sent an offer for the series that he eventually turned down due to his wife at the time, Rebecca Romjin, stating it was demeaning to women.

Stamos wrote, “The show sounds daring and edgy. Exactly what I need. I pass on Charlie’s Hookers, but I know Ryan is the real deal, and I should take this offer seriously. I let Rebecca read the script. ‘It’s demeaning to women,’ she says dismissively. I think there’s more to the show, but we talk it out and I turn down Nip/Tuck.”

Many other facts about Stamos can be read in his memoir  If You Would Have Told Me.
