According to Deadline, John Leguizamo (Bloodline) is officially joining the cast of the Apple drama series Firebug. Leguizamo is an Emmy and Tony winner. He will be joined by Taron Egerton (Rocketman) on the series, who was already announced as a star.
The series is being created by Dennis Lehane (Black Bird), who also serves as the writer for the series. Along with Lehane, Emmy-nominated and BAFTA-winning director Kari Skool and (The Falcon) will direct the show as well as serve as an executive producer. Egerton will also serve as an executive producer alongside Richard Plepler (Provenance) through Eden Productions, Dan Friedkin (The Last Vermeer) and Bradley Thomas (Killers of the Flower Moon( through Imperative Entertainment also executive produce. Finally, Kary Antholis (The Slow Hustle) is also an executive producer, said Deadline.
Deadline also cited that the series is loosely based on true events. Reportedly, the show is about “A troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator will follow in the footsteps of two serial arsonists.”
Deadline reported that along with Black Bird, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and the newly announced The Wager, which is an adaptation of David Grann’s book, Firebug is the most recent series to join Apple Studios.
Deadline said that Leguizamo will play Esposito, who serves as a former policeman who harbors bad habits but has spot-on instincts.
Deadline also explored other works by Leguizamo, which includes hosting and executive producing of MSNBC’ travel show, Leguizamo Does America. He also recently starred in Amazon series The Power, in Showtime’s five-part drama series Waco: The Aftermath, and in Mark Mylod’s horror comedy The Menu. Leguizamo also has made an appearance in the independent film Bob Trevino Likes It, which recently won the SXSW Grand Jury Award and the Audience Award in the Narrative Feature category at SXSW. He also stars as federal agent Gordon Rogers in The Green Veil drama series, which he produced alongside director Aram Rappaport.
