John Larroquette Returning For Melissa Rauch-Produced ‘Night Court’ Revival At NBC

NBC is returning to Night Court according to Deadline. A reboot of the 80s comedy about night shift court professionals is in the works from Melissa Rauch’s (The Big Bang Theory, The Bronze) production company, After January. The series revival will be a continuation of the original with John Larroquette (Richie Rich, The Librarians) returning as former prosecutor Dan Fielding.

According to Deadline, Rauch will executive produce with husband and partner Winston Rauch (The Condom Killer) for Warner Bros. TV. Dan Rubin (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Michael J. Fox Show) will also executive produce as well as write the script. Larroquette will also serve as a producer. The original story pitched by Rauch follows Abby Stone, a new judge seeking to bring a positive perspective to the night shift courtroom in Manhattan. Stone will be the daughter of the original show’s judge, Harry T. Stone who was played by the late Harry Anderson (Dave’s World, Stephen King’s It).

According to DeadlineNight Court originally ran for eight seasons from 1984-1992. Created by Reinhold Weege (Barney Miller, M.A.S.H.), it coveted three Outstanding Comedy Emmy nominations and earned Larroquette four consecutive Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Emmy wins. In addition to Anderson and Larroquette, the series starred Markie Post (Hearts Afire, There’s Something About Mary) as Christine Sullivan, Richard Moll (Scary Movie 2, Jingle All the Way) as Bull Shannon, Charles Robinson (The Guest Book, Love & War) as Macintosh Robinson, and Marsha Warfield (Empty Nest, The Richard Pryor Show) as Rosalind Russell. There is no word if any other original characters will return to the series.

According to Deadline, Rauch recently starred in her own stage production entitled The Secret Lunches of Chelsea and Ivanka. Rauch produced and co-wrote the political satire with her husband Winston. Me, Myself & I.
