Last week, the long-running police procedural comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, ended its run. Headliner Andy Samberg (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) brought on his wife, harp prodigy Joanna Newsom, for a two line-cameo in the series finale — her first acting credit since appearing in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping in 2016.
In the two-line cameo, Newsom plays Caroline St. Jacques Renard, the associate principal cellist for the Berlin Philharmonic. Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) was shocked that the other cops didn’t recognize her.
Samberg’s Jake Peralta had an exchange with Newsom’s character with a couple of inside jokes. Samberg called Newsom “some nerd” with a “great violin,” and Newsom called Samberg the “ugly one that made fun of my cello.”
Brooklyn Nine-Nine ended its eight-season run last Thursday on NBC. The series originally aired on Fox before getting canceled by the network in 2018 after six seasons. NBC picked the series back up in 2019 where it ran for three more seasons.
The series received 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes for its last season and 81 nominations from various awards, with 15 wins including Best Television Series for Musical or Comedy from the Golden Globes.
