A “little mermaid” has been cast on Once Upon a Time: TVGuide reports that JoAnna Garcia Swisher has joined the popular ABC series as Ariel.
Garcia will appear in the sixth episode of the upcoming season, simply titled “Ariel”, which is slated to air November 3. As always, the series’ producers plan to put their own twist on the beloved character “while retaining [her] ‘wide-eyed’ charm and ambitions.” According to TVLine, however, Ariel will appear not in Storybrooke but in another realm altogether.
Garcia has worked extensively in television: her credits include Freaks and Geeks, Reba, and, more recently, Gossip Girl and Royal Pains. Once will mark her return to the small screen after Animal Practice was cancelled earlier this year.
She joins fellow newcomers Rose McIver and Robbie Kay for the fairytale series’ third season, which premieres September 29 at 8 PM.
