According to The Hollywood Reporter, indie rock singer and guitarist Krysten Ritter will be reprising her critically acclaimed role of Jessica Jones in the upcoming season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. The announcement was made during Disney’s annual Upfront Presentation used to draw in advertisers.
Ritter starred in the widely popular Jessica Jones series on Netflix. The series won a Peabody, Hugo, and Emmy award. Ritter’s performance on the set earned her a Webby Award and a Glamour Best International TV Actress Award. She and the show were also nominated for a slew of other awards and given rave reviews from critics and fans.
Jessica Jones revolved around the titular character, who is a deeply flawed yet relatable heroin. She struggles with alcoholism and has super strength, much like Will Smith’s (Bad Boys, Men in Black) Hancock. She deals with the baggage of trauma and PTSD from being under the mind control of the series villain, Kilgrave. Jones begins a private detective operation and ends up helping others like her with superpowers who have been controlled by Kilgrave.
During Disney’s Upfront Presentation, which saw the unveiling of their upcoming AI-driven advertising tool that will create tailored audience segments, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Ritter joined Born Again star Charlie Cox on stage to make the announcement. This could be a big relief for fans who may have been expecting to see other Marvel Comic Universe superheroes brought into the current storyline, given the way things left off in season one.
The Hollywood Reporter mentions that when asked if more characters from the Netflix era of Marvel will be joining the cast, Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel’s television and animation, seemed to sidestep the question. “It’s about not rushing and telling the best story,” he claims. “Yes, it’s exciting to think about characters interacting, but it’s about the reasons why. At times we’ve done that very well, at times we’ve rushed. The story has to lead the path.”
According to a previous article by mxdwn, the first season of Daredevil details the events of Daredevil being doxxed and Kingpin being hot on his trail. He ends up taking a bullet for his arch-nemesis which leaves his would-be assassin scratching their head for a moment. He ends up teaming up with fellow vigilante The Punisher, and they have an epic battle with their enemies as they debate the ethical implications of proper street justice.
With only a few months under the belt of filming, Daredevil: Born Again season two isn’t set to premiere until March 2026. With the addition of Jessica Jones, the next season may be set to be even more epic than the first.
