There’s no place like home, as Jeremey Allen White (Homecoming) is returning to Chicago to star in the FX pilot, The Bear. The Shameless actor is coming back to the windy city to play a young chef running a family restaurant in the half-hour comedy, as reported by Deadline.
The upcoming pilot will be executive produced by Christopher Storer (Ramy), Joanna Calo (BoJack Horsemen), Hiro Murai’s (Atlanta), Super Frog productions, and FX productions. Storer is slated to direct and write the pilot in addition to executive producing duties. The project was given a pilot order in March.
The news of White’s casting comes just after the Showtime dramedy Shameless aired its series finale on April 11, 2021. An eleven season-long run first premiering in 2011, White portrayed Lip Gallagher for the duration of the show and quickly became a fan favorite character. The series took place on the south side of Chicago, and the upcoming series The Bear will see him return to the city once more. White can also be seen in the second season of the Amazon Prime Video series Homecoming, and the 2020 film The Rental.
Alongside White, the series will feature actors Ayo Edebiri (Big Mouth), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (NOS4A2), Abby Elliott (SNL), Lionel Boyce (Loiter Squad), and Matty Matheson (Stupid F*cking Cooking Show).
