Mad Men is drawing to a close and it’s being sent off with a bang.
AMC and Film Independent have announced a special event on May 17th, at the Theater at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, that will include a live reading of Mad Men’s season 1 finale followed by a screening of the series finale.
Jason Reitman, host of Live Read, will direct the live reading of “The Wheel.” Reitman will cast actors to perform during the live read. In a statement released about the event, Reitman says the reading will honor and pay tribute to Mad Men as the series comes to an end.
Following this read while be a screening of the series finale “Person To Person.” Elvis Mitchell, Film Independent’s curator, said in the statement, “The Film Independent Mad Men: Live Read & Series Finale is going to be a very exciting, one-of-a-kind event, combining Jason Reitman’s hugely successful Live Read with a screening of a series finale.”
Special guests at the screening will be Matthew Weiner, Mad Men creator, and cast members Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, John Slattery, and Kiernan Shipka.
Reitman has hosted several live reads with films before. “The kind of work that continues to inspire us…The Apartment, His Girl Friday, Glengary Glenross, Shampoo…I put Mad Men right up there with these classics, and it’s a thrill to pay tribute to Matthew Weiner as this important series comes to a close,” he said in the statement about the event.
Mad Men is the most Emmy nominated series in history and concludes on Sunday, May 17th on AMC.
