Jared Padalecki To Produce ‘Walker’ Prequel Series

Star and executive producer of the newest CW show Walker, Jared Padalecki (Supernatural, Gilmore Girls), is set to also produce a prequel series for Walker titled Walker Independence. Joining Padalecki from the original show is creator/ executive producer Anna Fricke (Everwood, Being Human) along with fellow executive producers Seamus Fahey (Lethal Weapon, Battlestar Galactica: The Face of the Enemy), Dan Lin (Flora, The Lego Ninjago Movie) and Lindsey Liberatore (Man On Fire, Hostage).

According to Deadline, both Fricke and Fahey wrote the story together and this new show will be set in the 1800’s. The story is set to follow Abby Walker, a wealthy Bostonian socialite who’s husband is murdered right before her very eyes. This ignites her revenge driven adventure across the country, and in doing so she encounters lovable rogue Hoyt Rawlins.

The pair inevitably find themselves in Independence, Texas where they both search for purpose while also trying to bring positive change in a town filled with runaways and danger at every corner.

It is not clear as to how the series will connect with its source material, which is now in its second season, besides the apparent relation between Abby Walker and the main character of Walker: Cordell Walker.

This is not the CW’s first foray into world building, the CW’s Arrowverse started simply with the show Arrow 2012 based off the DC comics characer The Green Arrow and has now spanned across multiple different shows and canons such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning and now Superman And Lois. The Cw is also reportedly in the midst of expanding other current shows such as All American and Nancy Drew, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As previously mentioned Walker is in the midst of its second season. The show is based on the hit CBS series from the 1990s Walker, Texas Ranger starring Chuck Norris (Delta Force, The Way of the Dragon) as the title character who now Padalecki is playing in this series.
