Jamie Foxx Stars As “Iron Mike” In Upcoming Antoine Fuqua and Martin Scorsese Biopic Series ‘Tyson’

Jamie Foxx is set to play Mike Tyson a.k.a. “Iron Mike” is a new TV series executive produced by industry heavyweights Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas), according to Deadline. The series will be the second time Iron Mike’s life will be adapted for the screen.

The series was initially set up as a feature film back in 2014, according to Deadline. Foxx was attached to play the key role with screenwriter Terence Winter (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, The Wolf Of Wall Street) writing the script. The film turned tv series will soon be taken out to market, according to Deadline. The Oscar winning actor, Foxx revealed that he first met Tyson when Foxx was performing stand up at just 22 years old. 

Last summer Foxx said that he was bulking up to play the famous heavyweight champion. The actor comedian will star and executive produce the series along with the series director Fuqua, Raging Bull Director Scorsese and Tyson himself. Colin Preston wrote the pilot and is in the process of writing the entire series.

Hulu just last month revealed its upcoming Iron Mike  limited series. The biopic comes from I, Tonya screenwriter and director Craig Gillespie. Following the announcement Tyson was furious at Hulu. According to Deadline, Tyson called it “Cultural Appropriation” and “Tone-deaf”. Since Tyson, his wife, and his Legends Only League is behind the production of this Foxx, Fuqua, and Scorsese series, it is authorized by Mike himself.

“I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time,” said Mike Tyson. “With the recent launch of Legends Only League and the excitement from fans following my return to the ring, now feels like the perfect moment. Foxx won an Oscar for his portrayal of the late Blues and R&B singer Ray Charles in the 2004 film Ray. Foxx currently stars in Netflix sitcom Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!
