James Gunn Hints At DC’s Future With ‘Creature Commandos’ NYCC Panel Reveal

James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) recently revealed a panel for the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos,which is scheduled to premiere on Max on December 5. According to Comicbook, Gunn and Peter Safran(Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom) shared visions of the future of the DC franchise. They planned several televised projects, such as Lanterns, Booster Gold, Waller and Paradise LostCreature Commandos will follow a team of monstrous characters who are recruited by Amanda Waller to carry out dangerous missions.

According to Comicbook, Gunn had shared on social media that at this NYCC, which is scheduled for October 19, he will be on the panel with the cast members, which includes Frank Grillo (Prison Break), David Harbour(Stranger Things), Zoe Chao (Senior Year), Sean Gunn(Avengers Endgame), Dean Lorey(Harley Quinn) and Steve Agee (Peacemaker). Gunn has rebooted the entire DC Universe, and Creature Commandos is technically the first project set in it.

“What we’re doing with the DCU is we’re having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe,” Gunn stated via Comicbook in 2023 about how the various facets of the DCU will connect.

According to Comicbook, David Zaslav, head of Warner Bros. Discovery, released a statement on the future of the DCU, “I’ve had a glimpse into what James and Peter are doing, and it really does serve as an exciting indicator of where the new DC is headed under their leadership.” He continued, “There’ll be more you’ll hear from them in the months ahead… We’ll have James and Peter take you through in the next few months a full spectrum of what they see over the next 10 years.” With the DCU undergoing a major overhaul, the panel offers a unique opportunity to better understand the studio’s vision for the franchise’s future.
