James Gunn (The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker) explained why the hit series Creature Commandos is currently choosing to continue with the option of the weekly episode release on Max instead of binge release like Netflix, Deadline reports.
According to Deadline, after the series was renewed for second season, Gunn replied to an X (formerly Twitter) post from a fan asking why the first season was released in weekly episodes.
“It affords a quality show an opportunity to be discussed and grow from week to week,” Gunn explained on X via Deadline. “[Creature Commandos] has gotten more popular from episode to episode because of the positive discussion around it and has cultivated an enthusiastic audience.”
He continued, via Deadline, “If we had dropped all the episodes at once who knows what would have happened. I will likely always be in the one-a-week camp for our shows. For people who want to binge all at once, they can wait until the end of the season.” The X (formerly Twitter) post is embedded below.
According to Deadline, Creature Commandos is the first project released for the new DC Universe. Created by Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran (Annabelle: Creation, The Conjuring 2), the cast includes Steve Agee (Brightburn, Peacemaker) as Economos, Maria Bakalova (The Apprentice, The Honeymoon) as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra (The Witcher, The ABC Murders) as Circe, Zoe Chao (The Afterparty, Long Weekend) as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo (Boss Level, The Purge: Anarchy) as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls, The Suicide Squad) as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow) as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien, Moana) as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma (Obsession, Silent Hours) as The Bride and Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder, Peacemaker) as Amanda Waller.
Furthermore, according to Deadline, Gunn said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem. From our spectacular first season of Peacemaker to the astonishing run of The Penguin to the record-breaking launch of Creature Commandos, Max has consistently delivered above industry expectations and beyond our wildest imaginings. Thank you, Casey, Sarah, Pia, Sono, and the entire team for your tremendous support of DC Studios. We are proud to call Max home.”
The first season of Creature Commandos is now available to stream on Max.
