Among the latest crop of movies and television announced by James Gunn (Peacemaker, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy) and DC Studios is the highly-anticipated series, Booster Gold. This comes as an unexpected but delightful surprise to fans of the riotous time-travelling superhero, who has been a cult-classic character of the DC Universe since his first comic book appearance all the way back in 1986.
The announcement for the upcoming Booster Gold show was released earlier today on the official DC YouTube channel by none other than Gunn himself, who also reported the arrival of several other projects such as a new Superman film series and a new Batman film (set in a different universe than Matt Reeves’ The Batman) centered around the caped crusader’s reckless and impulsive young son, Damian Wayne. Gunn spoke very briefly of Booster Gold during the announcement video, but confirmed that “Booster Gold is one of comics’ really popular cult heroes, he is a fascinating guy, he’s a loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to present day and become a superhero so that people will love him. It is basically the superhero story of imposter syndrome on an HBO Max series.”
According to Gunn, this is only the first wave of programs on DC’s docket, which is titled Gods and Monsters: Chapter One. In the same report, Gunn stated, “As many of you know, DC has been disconnected in film and television for a long time and it’s one of our jobs, mine and Peter’s (co-CEO Peter Safran), to come in and make sure that the DCU is connected in film, television, gaming, and animation.”
