Jack Bannon Cast As Alfred in Epix Series ‘Pennyworth’

Jack Bannon has been cast in the role of Alfred Pennyworth in the series Pennyworth, which will soon begin production of its first season. The Epix drama is set to explore the character of Alfred, a man already known to millions of fans from his relationship with the superhero Batman, but will likely present him in an entirely new light.

As opposed to being the star, Alfred Pennyworth’s role is typically one of a secondary character in his previous movie and TV appearances. Despite his extensive knowledge and quick-thinking abilities, being overshadowed by the hero and Boy Wonder has typically proved itself to be virtually impossible for the butler.

Jack Bannon is a young actor who can be seen in his previous roles in the films The Imitation Game, Fury, and Kids in Love. On Pennyworth, Bannon is set to depict a young, handsome, and conniving young Alfred not often seen of his character from past projects. Set while Alfred is in his 20’s, he is completely unaware of what is to come for him later down the line (including his friendship with the aforementioned Batman). Many topics will be covered in the new series, including the characters’ past as a soldier who had killed at least one man.

Pennyworth will be executive produced by Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, who together worked on the series Gotham, which also delved into the world of Gotham City before the Batman became such an important part of its landscape. Danny Cannon will also direct the pilot episode, which (like the others) will be filmed at the Warner Brothers Studio in London in just over one week.

Although a lot is not yet known about the upcoming series, the “built in” fans from the Gotham and Batman universes provide a solid base for potential fans of Pennyworth. After the success of the two aforementioned worlds, it definitely seems possible for the new series to garner much attention and acclaim, and potentially even make itself a staple of a future TV lineup.
