According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jack Bannon (Pennyworth, The Imitation Game) and Douglas Henshall (Shetland, Primeval) are set to join The Darkness, a nordic noir tv series directed by Lasse Hallström (My Life as a Dog, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is expected to be a six-episode production from CBS Studios and Icelandic production firm Truenorth with Stampede Ventures. Principal photography is underway in Reykjavík, Iceland, with Paramount Global Content Distribution selling the series outside Iceland.
Other actors already cast are Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (The Witcher, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga), Thorsteinn Bachmann (Agnes Joy, Katla), Þorvaldur Davíð Kristjánsson (White Lines, The Minister), Tora Hallström (Save Haven, Hachi: A Dog’s Tale), Ahd Tamimi (Stella Blómkvist, River City) and Árni Þór Lárusson (True Detective, Against the Ice).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the concept of the project was showcased at Rome’s MIA Market this past fall.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Darkness is based on the best-selling thriller book series by Ragnar Jónasson (Snowblind, The Island). The series follows Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir as she investigates a murder case all while coming to terms with personal traumas. “Faced with an impending early retirement and forced to take on a new partner, Hulda is determined to find the killer, even if it means putting her own life in danger,” according to a plot description.
Executive producers of the series are Greg Silverman (10 Things I Hate About You, Joker) and John-Paul Sarni (Gold Diggers, Black-ish) for Stampede Ventures, with Jónasson also serving as an executive producer. Kristinn Thordarson (Margrete: Queen of the North, The Valhalla Murders) and Leifur B. Dagfinnsson (The Northman, Black Widow) are executive producing for Truenorth.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Darkness is one of many international series being produced by CBS Studios along with Gold Diggers, Munich Games, Bestseller Boy, Colin From Accounts and NCIS: Sydney.
Bannon has recently appeared in the British television detective drama series Endeavour with Shaun Evans (Vigil, War Book), Roger Allam (V for Vendetta, Tetris), Anton Lesser (Andor, Killing Eve) and Sean Rigby (Foundation, Gunpowder).
Henshall recently was in the British thriller television series Who Is Erin Carter? with Evin Ahmad (Snabba Cash, The Rain), Sean Teale (The Gifted, Incorporated) and Indica Watson (Sherlock, Gold Digger).
