‘Insatiable’ on Netflix renewed for a second season

Insatiable, which premiered on Netflix back in August, has been renewed for a second season. The show revolves around a disgraced civil lawyer-turned-beauty pageant coach, Bob Armstrong (Dallas Roberts) and a vengeful bullied teenager, Patty Bladell (Debby Ryan). After getting punched in the face, Patty goes from being unpopular and overweight to skinny and newsworthy. Her luck continues further after meeting Armstrong as he takes Patty on as his client. However, it quickly spirals downward due to her seemingly damaged personality.

The show had previously gathered immediate backlash, starting a petition on change.org, which was due to the showing having underlying tones of diet culture and how a woman/girl should look in order to be beautiful. The creator and writer of the show, Lauren Gussis, had spoken out in defense about her show in numerous interviews.

In one interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared some views about her personal life and how her experiences helped her to create the show. Gussis stated, “I wanted to poke at all those issues through comedy. But every single one of the issues that these characters struggle with- from eating disorders to body dysmorphia to sexuality to needing outside power and validation, to wanting to be perfect, to mental illness- I have struggled with every single one of those things.”

Others among the cast include Alyssa Milano (Coralee Armstrong), Kimmy Shields (Nonnie Thompson), and Christopher Gorham (Bob Barnard). Gussis executive produces alongside Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, Andrea Shay, Todd Hoffman, and Dennis Kim.

Auna Zimmer: Graduated from Western Michigan University. Currently surviving as a travel writer and photographer.
