A new fifth episode of the documentary series Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV has reportedly been approved by Investigation Discovery, according to Deadline. The episode will explore the toxic and dangerous culture that surrounded some of the most famous children’s television programs of the late 1990s and early 2000s, including claims of alleged racism, sexism, and abuse. Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV premiered on March 17th and 18th with four episodes available to stream on Max.
“Breaking The Silence”, which premieres on Sunday, April 7th at 8/7c on ID, will star Drake Bell (Drake and Josh, The Amanda Show) and other former Nickelodeon kid stars from the early 2000s. To discuss their thoughts on Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, a few get together for the first time.
Deadline reports in the episode, Bell, former All That cast members Giovonnie Samuels (That’s So Raven, Bring It On: All Or Nothing) and Bryan Hearne (Hardball, Pootie Thang), Hearne’s mother Tracey Brown, and new voices, such as Shane Lyons (Wizards Of Waverly Place, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), a former All That cast member, will join Soledad O’Brien (Zoolander 2, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice) for a conversation about the industry both then and now.
Jason Sarlanis (Kendra, Kourtney & Kim Take Miami), President, TNT, TBS, TruTV, ID & HLN, Linear and Streaming states: “With ‘Breaking The Silence’, we’re digging deeper into the crucial conversations the docuseries ignited and exploring the lingering questions left in their wake to provide further insight from the brave voices who’ve spoken out previously and those who are coming forward again.”
According to ID and Max/discovery+, Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV has attracted over 16 million viewers, making it the most watched unscripted series since Max’s debut. Journalist Soledad O’Brien will spearhead the discussion in the upcoming episode to address the direction that the industry can take, building on the revelations that were examined in the first four episodes.
In line with Deadline, the series has highlighted the emotional stories of the key cast members, writers, and crew from Dan Schneider‘s (ICarly, Zoey 101) popular series at Nickelodeon and provided previously unheard access to them. A pattern of alleged heinous, verbally and emotionally abusive, manipulative behavior spanning decades is also chronicled, along with anecdotes of child predators on set. The alleged abuse that former Nickelodeon star Drake endured at the hands of his former dialogue coach, Brian Peck (What I Like About You, Children Of The Corn III: Urban Harvest), who was found guilty in 2004 of crimes against Drake and required to register as a sex offender, was revealed in public for the first time ever in the docuseries.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television – Nonfiction in collaboration with Business Insider, Maxine Productions. Emma Schwartz (Frontline, The New York Time Presents), and Mary Robertson (The Weekly, June) are the directors and producers of Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
