Ian Somerhalder is back and in business with Vampires again, but this time he’s going to war.
The Vampire Diaries star joined the cast of Netflix’s new series, V-Wars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, V-Wars is an IDW comic book adaption ordered straight to series by the streaming agent. The first season is going to be 10 episodes.
Somerhalder plays Dr. Luther Swann, a man who sees his best friend transformed by a disease into a vampire. His Friend, Michael Fayne, becomes a murderous and feeds on other people. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society splits into opposing camps pinning normal people against the growing number of vampires. Swann races against time to figure out what’s happening, while Fayne rises to the powerful leader of the vampires.
V-Wars, the comic series, was written by New York Times best-selling author, Johnathon Maberry. 1-800-Missing creators William Laurin and Glenn Davis will be the showrunners, while Brad Turner (Stargate, Stargate Atlantis) will direct and executive produce. Eric Birnberg, Thomas Walden, David Ozer, Ted Adams and Games Gibb are also executive producers on the series.
“We could not have dreamed of a better choice than Ian Somerhalder to bring his keen understanding of this genre from his years of starring in The Vampire Diaries to lead the cast of V-Wars as Dr. Luther Swann and to be a creative force on this series, as well as to serve as a director this season. We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Johnathon Maberry created to audiences worldwide,” Ozer said in a statement.
Somerhalder landed V-Wars just a year after he signed off of The CW’s Vampire Diaries following its eight season run.
A premiere date has not been announced yet, nor any news on who his new cast members will be.
