It’s been about two years since Caitlyn Jenner, former Olympian and member of the Keeping Up with the Kardashians clan, sent the world rocking as she came out publicly as transgender male-to-female on the cover of Vanity Fair.
Now, two years later, the reality show based on her transition, I Am Cait, has been cancelled by E!, Deadline reports. The news broke after Jenner posted a tweet to her personal Twitter, thanking her crew and the network for the experience that encapsulated a tumultuous and ultimately-rewarding time in her life.
Said Jenner in the tweet, “After 2 amazing seasons of @IAmCait, it’s time for the next adventure. Thank you E! & thank you to the best girlfriends I could ask for!”
The cancellation was likely largely in part due to the show’s pittance ratings, which have dropped significantly from the first episode in 2015. On July 26th, 2.73 million tuned in to watch and understand as Caitlyn Jenner displayed to the world what she had become and how her family had responded. Since then, viewership plummeted to where, for some episodes this season, the numbers totaled less than 500,000.
Now, many heads of eliminated television shows often quote their proposed plan to find their “next adventure,” but it really does seem like Jenner is moving through her waters without any fallen trees blocking the way. With the Rio Olympics currently thoroughly underway, Jenner is being called back by NBC to be interviewed about her 1976 track-and-field run, giving her that primetime coverage. The former E! star will also be a guest star on the third season of the award-winning Amazon series about transgender people, Transparent.
Jenner is also slated to appear on this upcoming season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She is not, of course, a full-time member of the ensemble right now, given that she had separated from Kris Jenner years ago and the two had had a bit of a falling out since. Her two daughters however, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, are bloomed stars on Instagram and the modeling world, and with their consistent presence on the show, Caitlyn will easily have a place to be as a parent.
With her name and background, she’ll likely land something else of her own soon as well. Right now, after all, it seems like it’s a Kardashian/Jenner’s world.
The statement by E! was positive as well, suggesting that Jenner will continue to have a place on their network. “Caitlyn and E! have mutually decided not to move forward with another season at this time. She will always remain part of the E! family, and we look forward to continue following her journey as she appears on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.“
