Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow) and Ashley Madekwe (Salem) have been cast as supporting characters in Hulu‘ s upcoming adapted limited series for Four Weddings and A Funeral. Originally inspired by the British romantic comedy of the same name, actress and comedian Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton will put their own spin on the slated 2019 adaptation.
Tommy Dewey (Casual) also has just recently been tapped for a guest role as well, while earlier in October, Jessica Williams, Nikesh Patel, Rebecca Rittenhouse and John Reynolds were also confirmed to be joining the cast. Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, will have MGM Television serve as the lead studio in its production and have Universal TV co-produce.
Per Deadline, the new plot’s premise will revolve around a group of four American friends — Maya (Natathalie Emmanuel), Craig (Brandon Mychal Smith), Ainsley (Rittenhouse) and Duffy (Reynolds) — who all reunite for a big London based wedding. As the original film, after a few fiascos and shenanigans, the friends find themselves navigating the ups and down of adulthood while trying to find their places in the world under these bizarre circumstances.
The 1994 British rom-com film was directed by Mike Newell and was the first of several films to be written by screenwriter Richard Curtis in collaboration with an up and coming Hugh Grant as the main character, Ted. Mison will play the new Quentin, Madekwe the new Julia and Dewey as the new incarnation of Ted.
Four Weddings and a Funeral will mark the second series collaboration between Hulu and MGM TV following The Handmaid’s Tale and a third project from Universal Television following Kaling’s own show, The Mindy Project.
