Hulu wants to continue its relationship with Casual.
The streaming service has ordered a third season of the romantic dramedy series Deadline reports. Casual, which just premiered its second season on June 7th, is set to premiere the 13-episode season 3 sometime in 2017. Creator Zander Lehmann and Jason Reitman (Up In The Air, Juno, Thank You For Smoking) serve as executive producers on the series with Helen Estabrook (Whiplash, Up In The Air, Demolition) and Liz Tigelaar (Life Unexpected, Brothers & Sisters, Nashville). Lionsgate TV produces the series.
Lionsgate TV Group Chairman Kevin Beggs shared his enthusiasm for the renewal and said, “Critics and fans have embraced Casual as a distinctive, funny quality series thanks to the incredible talent of the creative team and the cast. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Hulu on this Golden Globe-nominated comedy series, and excited to continue to tell the stories of this offbeat family for a third season.”
Casual follows Valerie (an absolutely wonderful Michaela Watkins), her brother Alex (Tommy Dewey) and her daughter Laura (Tara Lynne Barr) as they all simultaneously struggle to form meaningful relationships and attempt to avoid the dysfunctional nature that is ingrained in their family DNA.
Along with the news of a third season it was announced that Hulu has signed a first-look deal with Reitman for all TV projects from him. This marks the first deal of this nature for the streaming service.
