Hulu/Onyx Comedy Pilot ‘1266’ Starring Gabourey Sidibe Adds Karim Diané, Kristin Dodson, and Kassandra Lee Diaz

According to Deadline, Hulu comedy pilot 1266, starring Gabourey Sidibe (Empire, American Horror Story), has cast Kristin Dodson (The Shivering Truth, Roxanne Roxanne), Karim Diané (One of Us Is Lying, StartUp), and Kassandra Lee Diaz (Confessions, You Married Dat) as leads. The series is produced by 20th Television. It is inspired by Sidibe’s real life and she will executive produce with Thembi Banks (Suitable, Loveology), Steven Canals (Pose, Afuera), Julie Bean (Grown-ish, Mike & Molly), and Jill Kaplan (Reflection of Evil, Shatterbox).

Banks will write the teleplay and direct the pilot; Banks and Bean will serve as co-showrunners.

Anna Maria Horsford (Amen, The Wayans Bros.), Judy Reyes (Devious Maids, Scrubs), and Tisha Campbell (Act Your Age, Martin), are set to recur if the pilot is picked up for a series.

1266 follows Sidibe’s character, Gabby Brixton, who is attempting to become a singer/model and an overnight millionaire while living with her mom. Once she is fired from her job, she starts working as a phone sex operator where she meets the women that will show Gabby that her voice can be powerful, prolific, and profitable.

Dodson will play Jimmy, the youngest phone sex worker at Imagine Inc. She is aimless, flighty, immature and ready to have lots of fun while making a bunch of mistakes.

Diaz will play Fi, a queer Afro-Latina woman in her twenties who is mysterious, cynical, introverted, and quiet yet fiery and keeps her cards close to her chest.

Diané will play Posh, who is a sexually ambiguous student at the New York Fashion Institute and everyone’s favorite person. He is Gabby’s endearing best friend and doesn’t put up with her B.S.
