Hulu is developing a new true crime drama called Murdaugh Murders based on a real life family made infamous by the popular Murdaugh Murders podcast, created by Mandy Matney, according to Deadline. Matney’s podcast launched on June 22, 2021 and has accumulated over 26 million downloads across 41 episodes since. The project was picked up in April by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, via Deadline.
The series will follow Alex Murdaugh, a member of the prominent South Carolina legal family who has faced dozens of embezzlement and other criminal charges, and his family drama, according to Deadline. The series will also be based on countless hours of reporting by Matney, and insider knowledge from years spent following the case, via Deadline.
Michael D. Fuller (Locke & Key, Quarry) and Erin Lee Carr (Britney vs Spears, Mommy Dead and Dearest) are set to create, write, and executive produce the series, along with executive producers Nick Antosca (A Friend of the Family, The Act) and Alex Hedlund (Chucky, A Friend of the Family), according to Deadline. Mandy Matney will also executive produce the series, via Deadline.
