Hulu has cast Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner, Saturday Night, The Internship) in the lead role of its upcoming comedy pilot Lex. According to Deadline, O’Brien will also serve as an executive producer on the project alongside creator Sean Clements (Workaholics, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Grinder) and comedy veteran Paul Simms (What We Do in the Shadows, Atlanta, The Larry Sanders Show).
Lex centers on a disgraced former reality television star who accidentally captures a murder in the background of a personalized Cameo video. After unknowingly recording the crime, Lex finds himself caught in a global conspiracy while fleeing powerful individuals determined to silence him. Using the social skills he developed during his reality television career, Lex must survive, uncover the truth, clear his name, and find a way back into the spotlight while unraveling the conspiracy surrounding the murder.
The pilot marks O’Brien’s first starring television role since his breakout performance as Stiles Stilinski in Teen Wolf. Since then, the actor has focused primarily on film, leading The Maze Runner franchise alongside Kaya Scodelario (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Crawl, The Woman in Cabin 10) and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, The Artful Dodger, Wolf Hall). He has also starred in projects including Love and Monsters, Not Okay, Caddo Lake, and Twinless. Most recently, O’Brien starred opposite Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Mean Girls, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga) in Send Help and will next appear in Apple’s upcoming drama Being Heumann, which also stars Mark Ruffalo (The Kids Are All Right, The Avengers, Now You See Me).
The project is produced by 20th Television. In addition to starring in the pilot, O’Brien will executive produce the series alongside Clements and Simms.
A premiere date and additional casting announcements for Lex have not yet been revealed.
