In an exclusive by Deadline, it has been reported that ABC’s hit show ‘High Potential’ has added some star power to the cast with the addition of Steve Howey (Reba, Shameless). They also report that Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Mick) has been promoted from producer to executive producer.
According to Deadline, the family-friendly American crime dramedy was one of the biggest breakouts of the 2024-25 season. The show follows Olson, who plays the role of Morgan, a single mother with a genius IQ working as a cleaner at the LA Police Department. She is recruited for her talents when she helps lead investigators to a murder suspect. She earns herself an unlikely partnership with a by-the-books detective, and they become an unstoppable force.
Deadline confirms that Howey is set to play the role of the precinct’s new captain, Jesse Wagner. The new captain is the type to think outside the box, just like Olson’s character, and knows his way around politics. He tends to find a way to wedge himself into the action, even if it’s uninvited.
Per Deadline, High Potential’s second season will kick off this fall in the same slot, Tuesdays at 10 PM on ABC, and will become available the next day for streaming on Hulu. The show may be procedural drama, yet with Olson on the set, known for her off-beat comedic genius on shows like the long-running Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and her leading role in The Mick, it comes off as more of a comedy. The contrast of Olson’s unorthodox style and the to a T ways of her partner make for endless humor.
Deadline continues to report that fans may remember Howey from his roles on Shameless and Reba. Yet, in recent years, he has been busy with leading role on CBS’s action series True Lies.
