According to Deadline, actor Henry Winkler (Happy Days, The Waterboy) will be starring in and executive producing a new NBC comedy, Last Chance Lawyer. Universal Television will produce the series.
According to Deadline, Andrew Weller (Dogged, Bonney) and Mike Gagerman (Search Party, Blood Brothers) will also serve as the executive producers and writers for the show. The main character, Winkler’s Howard Greensburg, is a hard-working defense attorney whose clients are the underdog. Greenberg takes on the role of the advocate who truly believes that they are not guilty, but that the judicial system is guilty.
Deadline reported that Winkler, known for his iconic role as Happy Days’ Arthur Herbert “Fonzie” Fonzarelli, is a 10-time Emmy nominee who, in 2018, won for his role on HBO’s Barry. Even though Winkler is 80 years young, he shows no signs of slowing down. When asked about any plans to retire, Winkler commented on the IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson podcast, “I think that this is the furthest from my imagination. I will retire when I am not able to [act] again, more.”
According to Deadline, Winkler was recently seen in Normal, starring Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Nobody), and on Apple TV’s series, Loot, opposite Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, SNL), which aired last fall. Rolling Loud is his next film, coming out later this year. Winkler is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360 and Heller Law Group.
This will be Winkler’s return to NBC after his recurring role on the comedy Parks and Rec, according to Deadline. Last Chance Lawyer is produced by Jimmy Mulville (Who Dares Wins, Whose Line Is It Anyway?) and Jed Mecurio through their (Line of Duty, Bodies) Hat Trick Media imprint. This will be the first legal comedy that NBC has produced in months. The last one was Night Court, which ended after just three seasons.
