HBO’s ‘The Third Day’ Adds New Cast Members To Limited Series

Actress Naomie Harris has  been confirmed as joining the cast of the HBO-Sky Studios co-production, The Third Day— she will be joining the series alongside Jude Law. Philippa Lowthorpe is also set to direct the latter half of the series’ six episodes. The second half, titled “Winter,” will see Harris’ Helen arrive on a strange island to find personal answers.

Harris is most well known for her role for which she also received an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination in the film Moonlight and as Eve Moneypenny in the Daniel Craig helmed 007 film franchise. She is set to reprise her role for the third time in the upcoming James Bond, No Time to Die. Other credits include: Mowgli, Collateral Beauty, Southpaw, and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

The Third Day‘s first half will be titled “Summer” and is helmed by Marc Munden. Set to follow Law’s Sam, the storyline will involve “a mysterious island off the British coast where he encounters a group of islanders set on preserving their traditions at any cost.”

Set to air in 2020 through the HBO banner in U.S. territories and on Sky Atlantic, the series will be the first original production to be produced through Sky’s new production house, Sky Studios, since their 2017 distribution deal. The same aforementioned deal will see Sky and HBO extend their partnership through a $250-million co-financing deal that is meant to encourage more original content productions.

The agreement will further encourage the launch of the HBO Sky Studios banner which will primarily focus on high-end dramas that can be available in international markets through both of HBO and Sky’s home markets.“This is the next step in the development of our relationship with HBO,” commented Jeremy Darroch, group chief executive at Sky, announcing the deal Thursday morning as Sky released its nine-month results to the end of March.

Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, Punchdrunk International produce The Third Day in partnership with writer and executive producer Dennis Kelly. Created by Kelly and Felix Barrett of Punchdrunk, Kit de Waal and Dean O’Loughlin will also take on writing duties for the show. Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will executive produce through Plan B alongside Munden and Lowthorpe as executive producers.
