HBO’s ‘Succession’ Finale Garners Millions of Viewers

The finale of Emmy award winning, HBO original series, Succession has become one of the most watched series’ on HBO’s streaming platform MAX. The finale of Succession, titled “With Open Eyes,” aired on May 28 at 9:00pm. According to Warner Brothers Discovery, it drew in a greatly large audience of 2.75 million viewers.

In a viewership comparison to season three of Succession, season four grew exponentially to average nearly nine million viewers per episode. This extraordinary increase was extremely evident in regards to the season three finale, titled “All the Bells Say.” The season four finale, doubling as the finale of the entire series, increased by 68% when compared to the season three finale. This means an extra 1.5 million people tuned in to see the conclusion of the dysfunctional yet lovable Roy family.

Succession, created by Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show, Fresh Meat), follows the filthy rich Roy family and their successful company of Waystar Royco. Logan Roy portrayed by Brian Cox (Troy, Braveheart) is the head of the family who passed away in the very beginning of the series. This leaves Logan Roy’s four adult children to duke out who will be granted the position of CEO at Waystar Royco.

The four children, Kendall (Jeremy Strong, Armageddon Time, The Gentleman), Siobhan “Shiv” (Sarah Snook, The Glass Castle, Pieces of a Woman) Roman (Kieran Culkin, Home Alone, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and Connor Roy (Alan Ruck, Freaky, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), suffer an excruciating ongoing battle for the position of CEO throughout the show’s four season run.

While the finale has revealed who becomes the new CEO of Waystar Royco, leaving the majority of the Roy family devastated, the true cause for celebration is the fact that viewership of Succession increased exponentially when compared to previous seasons of the Emmy award winning HBO series.
