HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’ Drops Final Season Teaser Trailer And Premiere Date

The critically acclaimed comedy Silicon Valley will return for its sixth and final season on Sunday October 27, 2019 at 10pm EST. The tech sitcom will have a shorter final season than usual featuring only seven episodes; this smaller finale format seems to be a pattern developing at HBO following Game of Thrones and Veep’s final seasons earlier this year. HBO also released the teaser trailer for the final season which is attached below.

The series aims to parody start-up culture and the wild west energy that drives young engineers looking to be the next Steve Jobs. The show focuses on Richard, Jared, Dinesh, Gilfoyle, Monica, Jian-Yang, Laurie Bream, Gavin Belson and Big Head and the struggles of Richard’s start-up, Pied Piper. The roles are filled by, respectively, Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Amanda Crew, Jimmy O. Yang, Suzanne Cryer, Matt Ross, and Josh Brener.

The show is a collaboration between John Altschuler, Mike Judge, and Dave Krinsky. Co-executive producers Judge and Alec Berg say, “Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us. We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and season six seems to be the fitting conclusion. We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew, and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”

And while Silicon Valley may be coming to an end, HBO audiences haven’t seen the last of Judge and Berg. Berg serves as showrunner on another HBO comedy, Barry starring Bill Hader, which has just been renewed for third season. Meanwhile Judge has two projects in the works at HBO, one known as QualityLand and the other known as A5. The premise of QualityLand takes viewers to the near future in which humanity “struggles to come to terms with the tyranny of convenience, but it’s funny.” The show will be a collaboration between HBO and Lionsgate. The second project, a limited series currently known as A5, “centers on a bioengineer who discovers the gene that makes a person an a-hole and attempts to answer the questions nagging at all of us: Why do a-holes exist? Why have they come to dominate our culture? And can they be cured?”

Back in the television universe of Silicon Valley, the season six teaser takes viewers to Washington D.C. where Richard testifies about the security of user data and as Starr’s character Gilfoyle puts it, “He looks like a child in a messy custody hearing.” Nanjiani’s Dinesh adds, “But you don’t feel sorry for him. You just want him to go away and not have any parents at all.” This is of course a poke at real Silicon Valley CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s awkward public appearance before Congress earlier this session.

The sixth and final season of Silicon Valley premieres on October 27, 2019 at 10pm EST. Previous seasons can be viewed on HBO platforms. Watch the teaser trailer below.
