HBO announced the premiere date for the final season of its Emmy-nominated comedy series, Insecure. The cable network revealed Sunday, October 24 as the fifth season’s debut in a small teaser from its Twitter account. The exact date comes a few weeks after the series announced the fifth season would come next month. Check out the 50-second teaser below:
The video captures show creator and star, Issa Rae (The Love Birds), and the various moments she’s stood in front of her bathroom mirror contemplating life for the past four seasons. Preparing fans for “a little reflection,” Issa’s mirror self questions whether there’s “a little voice in your head telling you you’re not done.” Real-life Issa retorts angrily, “That’s you,” to which mirror Issa mischievously snickers.
Debuting in 2016, Insecure follows Rae’s Issa and friends as they stumble through adulting’s daily problems. Centered on the friendship between Rae and Yvonne Orji’s (Vacation Friends) Molly, the show sees the characters juggle careers, relationships, and self in a gentrifying Los Angeles. Last season found Issa reunite with her ex-boyfriend, Lawrence, played by Jay Ellis (Thirsty). But their rejuvenated relationship hits a snag when Lawrence’s former flame, played by Christina Elmore (Twenties), reveals she’s pregnant.
Elsewhere, Molly and Issa found their friendship hit a rough patch. As Issa’s career and love life began to flourish, Molly found herself on the outside looking in, as she also began to settle down with her new beau, Andrew, played by Alexander Hodge (Modern Family). Soon, a rift developed between Issa and Molly, hitting a fever pitch after a tumultuous argument at Issa’s work bock party. While the two ended the season reconciling, their friendship may never be the same.
The series’ four seasons have featured star turns from Amanda Seales (The Real), Natasha Rothwell (Wonder Woman 1984), Y’lan Noel (The First Purge), Neil Brown Jr. (SEAL Team), Tristan J. Winger (Bigger), Lisa Joyce (Billy & Billie), and Kendrick Sampson (How to Get Away With Murder).
