HBO Renews ‘Westworld,’ ‘Insecure,’ and ‘Divorce’

It’s good news all around for HBO’s latest additions!

HBO announced this morning that it has renewed Westworld, Insecure, and Divorce for second seasons. Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming, released a statement regarding the news:

“I am thrilled to announce the pickup of our three fall series, all of which have distinctive, original voices. Critics and viewers alike have welcomed Westworld and Insecure, as well as the return of Sarah Jessica Parker to the network after 12 years with Divorce.”

Indeed, Westworld has appealed to so many viewers that it’s shattering records from HBO’s flagship show Game of Thrones. The show, taking liberties with time and fantasy, explores artificial consciousness and human desire. It’s seventh episode (out of a scheduled ten) aired on November 13, and viewers can’t stop discussing their new favorite Sunday night drama. Westworld garners an average audience of 11.7 viewers, a number that surpasses that of both Game of Thrones and True Detective. Each episode airs on Sunday nights at 9pm (ET).

Insecure, on the other hand, balances the scales as one of HBO’s comedies. It explores the day-to-day aspects of a modern black woman, while still dealing with the main characters’ realistic flaws and conundrums. The series was created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore, and began it’s 8 episode season on October 9 at 10:30pm.

Divorce caps off the fall HBO lineup, bringing both the comedy and drama in the “dark comedy.” Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, the main character (Frances) must make some hard choices about her life and consider whether divorce may be the answer for her and her somewhat estranged husband. Parker is also attached as an executive producer of the series that Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) created. Divorce previously segued the audience from Westworld to Insecure with a 10pm Sunday time slot.
