Marvel’s ‘The Inhumans’ Coming to ABC

ABC and Marvel are continuing their superhero relationship. Marvel has confirmed that a new Marvel show, The Inhumans, will be airing on ABC for the fall 2017 television season.

But what’s different about the arrangement is that the first two episodes of the show won’t premiere on ABC to begin with. Instead, the episodes will be screened in IMAX theaters in September 2017 before moving to ABC, where the show will continue its run. Marvel’s The Inhumans will be available for screening for two weeks next September before moving to ABC, where viewers will be able to exclusive content that’s only available for people watching on ABC.

“This unprecedented alliance represents a bold, innovative approach to launching great TV content for a worldwide audience. It highlights Disney|ABC’s unrelenting commitment to finding new and creative ways to showcasing our very best programming and increasing global engagement and reach,” Ben Sherwood, the co-chairman of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney|ABC Television Group, said.

On the Marvel side, they were equally excited to be able to present the show in a different and unique way. “We’re happy to see this unique deal come together, working with our partners. In an ever-changing world of distribution and consumption, it’s very exciting to be part of a groundbreaking initiative that takes us to the forefront of this evolution,” Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Television, publishing & brand, said.

Even IMAX is excited to get in on the action. “This first-of-its-kind multi-platform production, distribution and marketing agreement brings together Marvel Television’s unique brand of entertainment, ABC’s unparalleled audience and IMAX’s brand and global fanboy demographic,” said IMAX CEO, Rich Gelfond. “It also takes our decades-long relationship with The Walt Disney Company to a whole new level, jointly breaking new ground in the industry. We are confident our exhibition partners will be excited to work with us on this innovative launch of a series across the IMAX network.”

Marvel’s The Inhumans will most likely focus on Black Bolt, which is the most famous character from the original comic books, according to ComicBook.com. Other characters from The Inhumans who will most likely make appearances in the upcoming show include Medusa, Crystal, Gorgon, Karnak “The Shatterer” and Triton. This would mean that the royal family of the Inhumans universe would be featured in the show, which was confirmed by Joe Taraborrelli, Marvel’s senior communication manager, in a tweet.

A release date for Marvel’s The Inhumans has not be released for either the premiere in IMAX theaters or when it will premiere on ABC. There hasn’t been any casting announcements made or any announcements about who is working behind the scenes.
