HBO Renews ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Veep’ and ‘Silicon Valley’

HBO has just renewed three of its most popular shows. The premium channel has ordered new seasons of Game of ThronesVeep and Silicon Valley.

The three HBO shows were picked up for 2017 with Game of Thrones getting renewed for its seventh season, Veep for its sixth, and Silicon Valley  for its fourth. This announcement comes just a few days before the new seasons of all three shows air on the channel this Sunday.

An episode count for the seasons of each show was not released. Considering that the previous seasons of all three shows have been 10 episodes, it is probably safe to say the same will be true for the next seasons of Veep and Silicon Valley. Considering the recent talk of shorter seasons for Game of Thrones though, it isn’t as sure of a bet that its next season will also be a full 10 episodes.

VeepSilicon Valley and Game of Thrones are all big shows for HBO, so it is not much of a surprise that they have all been renewed. Game of Thrones and Veep are huge award-getters for the premium channel, with each winning for their respective category at the Emmys last year.

This renewal announcement is particularly good news for Veep fans who may have been worried about the departure of showrunner and creator Armando Iannucci, who was replaced by Dave Mandel (Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, SNL) as showrunner for the show’s fifth season airing Sunday. It seems like HBO has gotten fully behind Mandel with this season pickup.

Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley and Veep air back-to-back starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 24th.
