According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has renewed the crime drama Task for a second season. HBO and HBO Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys announced the renewal on Thursday for the Brad Ingelsby (Mare of Easttown, The Lost Bus)-created series starring Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers, Now You See Me).
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the series renewal comes after Task became hit at HBO and grew in popularity over the course of the first season. The season finale drew four million first-night viewers on HBO and HBO Max, and the show ranks as one of HBO’s fastest-growing debut seasons ever. The premiere of the series had 11.2 million viewers.
“We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films via The Hollywood Reporter. “Rarely does a writer balance humanistic storytelling with intricate, explosive plotting but Brad Ingelsby is one of our industry’s greats, and we have no doubt he will strike as profoundly and addictively once again in season two.”
Said Ingelsby via The Hollywood Reporter, “We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have HBO’s unwavering support of Task from the very first script onwards, throughout production, and during their extraordinary launch of our first season to audiences. They are an unmatched creative home. On behalf of the entire Task team, in front of and behind the camera, I am honored and excited to get back to work on a second season of our show.”
According to the official press release by HBO, the official log line for the first season is as follows: “Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent heads Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man.” Cast of the series includes Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey (Ozark, Love & Death), Emilia Jones (Locke & Key, Cat Person), Jamie McShane (Bloodline, Wednesday), Sam Keeley (Kin, The Cured), Thuso Mbedu (Shuga, The Woman King), Fabien Frankel (The Serpent, The Actor), Alison Oliver (The Order, Saltburn), Raúl Castillo (We the Animals, Looking), Silvia Dionicio (Delusional, Discarded Things), Phoebe Fox (The Great, Blue Iguana), and Martha Plimpton (The Goonies, Raising Hope).
