The popular black-comedy TV show Barry gets to continue for another season. HBO confirmed on Thursday that the show is renewed, via Deadline. Production for the upcoming season is set to begin in June this year.
Barry features the story of Barry Berkman, a discharged Marine from Cleveland, who now works as a hitman. He travels to Los Angeles for a mission but somehow discovers a new meaning of life when meeting a bunch of aspiring actors. Lonely and desperate, Barry wants to escape his bloody past and starts fresh. However, it is more difficult than he thinks. In Season 3, Barry is ready to ditch his murder business to chase his dream as an actor. But that proves to be a job in and of itself because he knows too much.
Former Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader plays Barry. After SNL, Hader met with a promising acting career, appearing in many smash hit movies such as Trainwreck and It: Chapter Two. Hader also serves as the executive producer and creator of Barry.
Other main roles of Barry are portrayed by Stephen Root (Succession), Sarah Goldberg (Hindsight), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Anthony Carrigan (The Forgotten), and Henry Winkler (Arrested Development).
“Bill, Alec, and the entire cast and crew delivered an exquisite third season of Barry, it’s a masterful blend of laughs and suspense,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP Programming at HBO. “I’m so happy to announce that we are picking up the fourth season.”
Barry received sensational praises. The first two seasons received a total of 30 Emmy nominations and 6 Emmys including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Hader; Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Winkler; Outstanding Sound Editing For a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation; and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation.
Season three of Barry is currently airing weekly on HBO and HBO Max. The season finale will premiere on June 12. Production is set to begin in Los Angeles.
