HBO Releases Teaser Trailer for ‘Lovecraft Country’

The upcoming horror television program for HBO Lovecraft Country has released its first teaser trailer prior to its August 2020 premiere, according to ComicBook.com. The HBO original comes from collaboration between Jordan Peele’s (Us, Get Out) Monkeypaw Productions and J.J. Abrams’ (Super 8) Bad Robot Productions. This project marks as yet another television series between Abrams and HBO with his production company striking three-show deal with HBO’s streaming platform HBO Max, Duster, Overlook, and an untitled Justice League Dark series. In addition to the involvement of Peele and Abrams as executive producers, the series will also include Misha Green (Heroes, Sons of Anarchy) and Ben Stephenson (Sherlock) in executive producer roles as well. The first season is set to premiere on an unannounced date this August and will consist of ten episodes.

Lovecraft Country is a horror series based on Matt Ruff’s (Bad Monkeys) novel from under the same name which centers on its main character, Atticus Black, on a journey to find his father during the 1950s Jim Crow America. Also, other characters such as his uncle George and close friend Letitia will be joining Black in this expedition. Black is to be played by Jonathan Majors (White Boy Rick) while George and Letitia will be portrayed by Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Full House, Birds of Prey), respectively. Additional cast includes the likes of Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road), Aunjanue Ellis (Men of Honor), Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), and Wunmi Mosaku (Luther).

HBO’s first look trailer for Lovecraft Country provides television fans with nearly two-minutes of tense imagery from the minds of Peele and Abrams. The ten-episode first season will be released on HBO and on its newly launched HBO Max platform after each weekly episodic release. Check out the trailer below:
