HBO Releases New ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Trailer

Game of Thrones just released a new trailer for the upcoming season 6 which premieres in fewer than two weeks, and it is awesome. Winter is coming? I don’t think so. Instead, “The dead are coming.”

Check it out below.

As if there weren’t enough anticipation surrounding the upcoming season. In the trailer we see Cersei re-establishing herself and reminding everyone why she is not someone to be messed with, Sansa joining in the fight and looking for revenge, Arya getting a second (but not a third) chance and learning to fight despite being blind, Daenerys not doing so well, Tyrion facing a dragon, and Jon Snow being very dead.

We can expect the show to deliver more of the same intense struggle over the iron throne, yet, as Davos warns, “The real war is between the living and the dead. And make no mistake, the dead are coming.”

Speaking of Davos, the new Game of Thrones trailer isn’t the only recently released footage from the upcoming season. Last week when Liam Cunningham (Davos) appeared on Conan, the world got an special look at a clip from season 6. In the sneak peek we see the tense moments before battle breaks out at Castle Black, and Kit Harington gets some screen-time playing dead.

Aside from the clip, it’s worth noting that Cunningham claims to know a great secret about the plot of Game of Thrones which George R.R. Martin, the author the novels the show is based on, exclusively told him. But it looks like he has taken this vow of secrecy very seriously.

Of course, all that fans care about right now is whether or not Jon Snow is dead. In the trailers he appears dead, in the clip shown on Conan he looks very convincingly dead, and in a recent press release from HBO the network shared a description for the first episode of season 6 which said, “Jon Snow is dead.”

All the signs point to Jon Snow really truly being dead. But if you’ve given up on his survival, there may be hope yet.

One popular theory is that Bran Stark, who has been absent for an entire season, will bring his half-brother back by, essentially, taking over his body. Another possibility is that someone will actually be able to resurrect Jon Snow. Golden Glob winning actor Ian McShane (Deadwood)  is set to make a special appearance in season 6. On March 16 in an interview with The Telegraph he mentioned that he let slip his character is a priest who brings a character everyone assumed dead back from the grave. At this point, he could really be bringing anyone back from the dead, but we are definitely hoping it’s Jon Snow.

Game of Thrones season 6 premieres on Sunday, April 24 on HBO.
