HBO’s miniseries, Show Me a Hero, premieres on August 16, 2015 (which we reported on in late May). The series is based off of the 1999 nonfiction book of the same name by Lisa Belkin. Show Me Hero, the miniseries, debuts soon and HBO has released a new trailer for the show according to Entertainment Weekly.
The miniseries, which was written by David Simon (The Wire) and directed by Paul Haggis (Crash), is set in Yonkers, New York in the late 1980’s. The series will follow Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) as Nick Wasicsko, Wasicsko the mayor of Yonkers who will try and work towards the desegregation of housing communities. Wasicsko will face the daunting task of mending race and political issues in Yonkers. HBO describes the series, writing, “This six-part miniseries explores notions of home, race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, NY”. Along with Oscar Isaac, the series stars Carla Quevado (The Secret in Their Eyes), Jim Belushi (According to Jim), Catherine Keener (Capote), and Winona Ryder (Little Women).
The trailer opens with a F. Scott Fitzgerald quote, “Show me a hero, I’ll write you a tragedy”, and a song by Jaime N Commons entitled ‘Karma (Hardline)’. Throughout the brief trailer, tensions quickly rise between the young mayor and Yonkers in the mayor’s efforts of desegregation. The trailer then goes on to display that “What we have to gain, is never as important as what we stand to lose”. The six part miniseries looks to be a drama that showcases the corruption, inequality and economic disparities going on in America during this time.

Although the very first trailer was released two weeks ago, it has since been deleted from HBO’s channel.
