HBO has officially ordered an untitled 30 minute sketch comedy limited series from Larry David (Seinfeld, The Three Stooges). The series, produced by Higher Ground and written by David and Jeff Schaffer (The League, Dave), will include several Curb Your Enthusiasm stars and actors. Schaffer will also direct, via Warner Bros Discovery.

According to an accompanying WBD press release, the logline reads, “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion….But then Larry David called.”

WBD shares the thoughts of former President Barack Obama, 44th president of the United States and executive producer; “I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”

Shaffer, director, executive producer, and writer, says to WBD “The characters Larry is playing didn’t change history. In fact, they were largely ignored by history. And that’s a good thing.”

The Executive Vice President and Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Programming, Amy Gravitt, states to WBD that she is glad David is coming back to HBO, “It’s hard to remember a time before ‘Curb,’ or without Larry David’s perspective on modern life. We’re thrilled that Larry is coming back to HBO, this time with Higher Ground, to give us a glimpse at our shared history as we celebrate our Semiquincentennial.”

David, the star, writer, and executive producer tells WBD, “Once ‘Curb’ ended, I celebrated with a three-day foam party. After a violent allergic reaction to the suds, I yearned to return to my simple life as a beekeeper, harvesting organic honey from the wildflowers in my meadow. Alas, one day my bees mysteriously vanished. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I return to television, hoping to ease the loss of my beloved hive.”

This series is executive produced by David and Schaffer, and for Higher Ground, the executive producers are Obama, attorney and former First Lady Michelle Obama, three-time Primetime Emmy award-winner Vinnie Malhotra (The Hunting Ground, Nothing Lasts Forever), and producer Ethan Lewis (The Light We Carry: Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, BS High), WBD notes.
