It is official everyone! HBO has ordered an untitled Game of Thrones prequel. With the hit series ending HBO has given the thumbs up for the project and it will be from Jan Goldman (Kick-Ass and Kingsman), as well as, George R.R. Martin (the author of the books and a co-executive producer of the HBO series). Out of the five projects they were working on, they have chosen the one that is set thousands of years before the current show.
The HBO logline for the project is, “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”
Goldman will be the showrunner for the future series and executive produce along with: Martin, Vince Gerardis (Game of Thrones co-executive producer), and Daniel Zelman (Damages and Bloodline co-creator and executive producer). As of right now, the Game of Thrones television creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are not involved with the prequel.
While there is no official details on what the series is going to be about there are theories. However, based on the line “the true origin of the White Walkers” the series will possibility be about origin story of the Night King. Also, the current cast is not expected to take part in this prequel.
There is also no official launch date for the series, but HBO originally was wanting to launch one of the Game of Thrones prequel ideas in 2020.
