Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin has acquired nine actors for recurring roles, via Deadline. The HBO Max reboot of the ABC Family original has added Brain Altemus (Grand Army), Cristala Carter (Evil, Law & Order: Organized Crime), Kate Jennings Grant (Notorious, Billions), Jennifer Ferrin (The Knick, The Equalizer), Lilla Crawford (Into the Woods, Sunny Day), Derek Klena (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Code), Robert Stanton (Mr. Mercedes, Dennis the Menace), Anthony Ordonez (Franklin & Bush, Shades of Blue), and Jeffrey Bean (The Blacklist, Law & Order).
According to Deadline, the revamp of the teen thriller series focuses on a new set of adolescent girls who become entangled in a mystery twenty years in the making. As the original show took place in Rosewood, the reboot is centered in the small town of Millwood, where a violent past has been kept quiet for two decades. Now, four new Little Liars have to contend with an anonymous assailant seeking revenge for their parents’ sins.
The recurring cast includes an assortment of characters all connected to the main cast, which was previously announced. Deadline reports some will portray faculty at Millwood High School, where our new Little Liars attend. Carter will portray Nurse Simmons, who is a kind and gentle ear the four girls can confide in. Stanton will play Marshall Clanton, Millwood High’s principal, who finds himself a nervous wreck with the recent events.
Ordonez will portray Mr. Gardner, the popular computer science teacher who becomes a mentor to Malia Pyles’ (Baskets) Minnie. Grant is Madame Giry, the dance instructor whose high expectations keep Zaria’s (Two Distant Strangers, black-ish) Faran on her toes. And Bean will play Mr. Smithee, the no-nonsense film teacher to Chandler Kinney’s (Lethal Weapon, K.C. Undercover) Tabby.
According to Deadline, the other four will play various Millwood residents. Klena will play Wes, the young boss at the local movie theater. His relationship with Tabby seems wholesome on the surface, but he is hiding ulterior motives. Crawford will play Sandy, a yes-woman to Karen, played by Mallory Bechtel (Hereditary, FBI: Most Wanted). Altemus is Millwood High’s poster child jock, Tyler, who embodies toxic masculinity. And Ferrin will play Martha Beasley, a woman whose strong, public demeanor hides a hurtful truth living inside the Beasley household.
Based on the books by Sara Shepard (Flawless, Perfect), Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is written by creators Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Kate Keene) and Lindsay Calhoon Bring (Frequency, 24) according to Deadline. They both will serve as executive producers, with Aguirre-Sacasa producing via his Muckle Man Productions. The duo are joined by Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein (Sex Drive, Everything, Everything) and Gina Girolamo (666 Park Avenue, You), Michael Grassi (Schitt’s Creek, Supergirl), and Caroline Baron (Capote, Admission). Lisa Soper (Peacemaker, Batwoman) will direct the first two episodes with Warner Bros. TV producing as well.
