Made for Love, HBO Max’s upcoming television series, brings a whole new meaning to Beyonce’s iconic song “Crazy in Love”. In the first trailer for the series, the voice of Ray Romano (Everyone Loves Raymond) reads lines from the popular song as the onscreen fairytale starts to go awry, via TVLine.
The series stars Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother) as Hazel Green, a stifled wife, and Billy Magnussen (Tell Me a Story) as Byron Gogol, Hazel’s possessive husband. According to TVLine, Made for Love introduces the pair as a couple living a luxurious life defined by their seemingly perfect marriage. However, Hazel eventually learns that her obsessive tech billionaire husband has placed an surveillance chip in her brain, allowing him to access and monitor her ’emotional data’. As Hazel attempts to flee the imprisonment of her marriage, the chip allows Byron to track her whereabouts as she attempts to hide with her father Herbert (played by Romano) and Diane, his synthetic partner.
The series is set to be a dark comedy exploring the infectious highs and cynical lows of love – or, rather, the twisted things that hide behind the concept of love. Christina Lee (producer, Wet Hot American Summer) serves as the showrunner for Made for Love in addition to having executive produced the series, via TVLine. In addition to Milioti, Magnussen, and Romano, Made for Love will star Dan Bakkedahl (Veep) and Noma Dumezweni (The Undoing). According to TVLine, additional recurring cast members will include Caleb Foote (The Kids Are Alright), Kym Whitley (Young & Hungry), Nyasha Hatendi (Casual) and Patti Harrison (Shrill).
Both Milioti and Magnussen are no strangers to the sci-fi aspects Made for Love seems to base its central conflict around. The two starred in the “USS Callister” episode of Black Mirror together back in the anthology series’ fourth season. Additionally, Made for Love will mark the third time the two actors have worked together, as they both starred in the 2012 film, The Brass Teapot.
Made for Love will begin streaming exclusively on HBO Max in April. Watch the official teaser trailer below.
