HBO Max has just dropped its Peacemaker season two red band trailer, and it appears to be filled with all the action that made season one a hit. The trailer starts off with a bang and can be viewed below.
According to Mxdwn, following the successful launch of the DCU on the big screen with Superman, James Gunn (Guardian Of The Galaxy, Superman) spoke about the connection between the projects at San Diego Comic-Con, teasing the possible appearance of Superman characters. The red band trailer further entices with a name drop of another prominent Superman character. Peacemaker season two will be the third installment in the DCU.
Peacemaker will see former WWE star turned actor John Cena (Trainwreck, Sucide Squad) reprising his role as the titular character. Joining him will be Peacemaker’s similarly morally rigid best friend, Adrian Chase, or Vigilante, played by Freddie Stroma (The Crew, Grand Hotel). Other cast includes Danielle Brooks (Orange Is The New Black, A Minecraft Movie), Dee Bradley Baker (Phineas And Ferb, Space Jam), Jennifer Holland (Brightburn, Sun Records), and Steve Agee (New Girl, Superstore).
The morally grey superhero genre appears to be going mainstream. In addition to Peacemaker, The Boys’ universe now features two massively popular series and a third in the works with Amazon. Peacemaker poses an interesting juxtaposition to the ethical Superman for the DCU. James Gunn is known for bringing character-forward stories to a superhero genre that some claim has gone slightly stale.
According to Business Insider, Peacemaker’s first season was a massive success for HBO Max. As of January 22, 2022, it was the most in-demand streaming series in the world, with viewership numbers 69.5 times that of the average series.
Gunn is credited as the creator of the series and has written nine episodes and directed eight. Whether he will remain as involved as the DCU continues to ramp up remains to be seen.
