According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has confirmed that they have a live-action adaptation of the famous video game series The Last Of Us series in the works. Set to be writing the series is Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), as well as the writer of the game, Neil Druckman.
With Craig Mazin’s most recent work being Chernobyl, a critically acclaimed series from HBO that premiered in 2019, winning multiple awards including the golden globe for best limited series. With Craig Mazin’s guidance, the writing of that mini-series was one aspect that was very well praised.
The Last Of Us series takes place twenty years in the near future after the world has been mostly destroyed. The story focuses on the main character Joel, a survivor of this apocalypse who is tasked with bringing a fourteen-year-old girl out of the Quarantine zone that a majority of the public resides in.
The Last Of Us part 2 premiered earlier this year and added more content to an already very diverse and expansive world. HBO Max looks to build upon this and really dive into the characters even more and it will be very interesting to see how they are able to expand on what the first two Last Of Us games have provided in terms of content.
According to a tweet from HBO’s PR page, there are multiple big names from HBO, Sony, and Naughty Dog (Creator of the game). So it will be very interesting to see how they are able to bring the game to the silver screen.
