HBO Max revealed via Deadline that Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary, Weird: The AI Yankovic Story) and Tyler James Williams (Abbott Elementary, Everybody Hates Chris) joined the cast of Harley Quinn Valentine’s Day Special. The duo will be voicing the DC superheroes Hawkgirl and Hawkman respectively.
According to Deadline, Brunson and Williams will voice the superheroes in short cameo where the couple explains how they fell in love in the Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special. Which will feature Harley Quinn, voiced by Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory, The Flight Attendant), and Poison Ivy, voiced by Lake Bell (What If…?, Bless This Mess), celebrating their first Valentine’s Day together.
Brunson has said that she is a fan of the show and is thrilled about voicing Hawkgirl in the special while teaming up with her Abbott Elementary creative partners and co-star Williams.
Williams has also commented on his involvement with the special and has said it is an honor to voice Hawkman. The actor has also claimed that his cameo in the Valentine’s special will be enjoyed by fans of both DC Comics and Abbott Elementary.
The synopsis for the special reveals some more information on what is going on with the rest of the characters of the show while Harley is putting all of her efforts into making her first Valentine’s Day with Ivy special. The synopsis hints that the audience will get more Bane, voiced by James Adomian (Duncanville, Close Enough), in the special. Bane will try his best to impress an unexpected date but unfortunately for him, things go horribly wrong. The audience will also get some more insight into Clayface’s love life, voiced by Alan Tudyk (Doom Patrol, Rogue One). After his online date doesn’t go as planned, Clayface decides to engage in some self-love instead.
In the show, Harley and Ivy are often hanging around with their friends and crew. Among the crew, there’s King Shark voiced by Ron Funches (The Great North, TrollsTopia), Clayface, Frank the Plant voiced by J.B. Smoove (Fairfax, Woke), and frenemy Dr. Psycho voiced by Tony Hale (HouseBroken, Hocus Pocus 2).
Other famous DC characters can be seen in the show including Harley’s ex-boyfriend the Joker also voiced by Alan Tudyk; comic relief Bane; Ivy’s ex-fiance Kite Man voiced by Matt Oberg (Superstore, Veep); Batman voiced by Diedrich Bader (Better Things, Pete the Cat); The Riddler voiced by Jim Rash (Sky High, Bros); Nora Freeze voiced by Rachel Dratch (Bob’s Burgers, Teen Titans Go!); Catwoman voiced by Sanaa Lathan (Family Guy, Hit & Run); Darkseid will be voiced by Michael Ironside (Top Gun, Hidden Assets), and recurring superheroine Batgirl voiced by Briana Cuoco (Sugar Mommy, The Flight Attendant). New additions like Janet Varney (The Legend of Korra, Country Comfort), Leila Birch (Doctors, The Scottish Play), Josh Helman (Deputy, Thirteen Lives), and Casey Wilson (Black Monday, Family Squares) will be voicing unknown characters.
The Harley Quinn series follows Harley after she breaks up with the Joker and tries to become a villain of Gotham. In her journey to become a villain, she rekindles her friendship with Poison Ivy and becomes friends with King Shark, Clayface, Frank, and Dr. Psycho. The series follows them and their encounters with other famous DC characters, including the Injustice League and the Justice League. It isn’t until season two that the audience can start to notice that Harley has feelings for Ivy, even though Ivy is engaged and planning her wedding to Kite Man. It isn’t until the end of the second season that Harley and Ivy share their mutual feelings for each other and share a kiss. The third season follows the new couple and how they handle being together while also working on their plans for terraforming Gotham.
Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special is set to premiere on February 9. In the meantime, the three seasons of Harley Quinn are available on HBO Max. Don’t forget to watch the trailer below.
