HBO Max Cancels Sci-Fi Drama ‘Raised By Wolves’ After Two Seasons

After two seasons the sci-fi thriller, Raised By Wolves, has been canceled by HBO Max, according to Deadline. The series executive produced by Ridley Scott (Prometheus) premiered its eight-episode second season on February 3 of this year. Scott served alongside show creator Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) and fellow executive producer, David W. Zucker (Killing Lincoln).

Exploring themes of humanity’s reliance on organized religion and free will, the series starred Amanda Collin (A Horrible Woman) and Abubakar Salim (Jamestown) as androids named Mother and Father, respectively. With their six adoptive children, the two sentient beings were created to foster a new civilization in a barren world. But a war of nature versus nurture emerges as two separate factions of beliefs challenge their way of life. In the second season, the duo joins an atheist colony to begin anew, but new and present dangers once again threaten habitation.

HBO Max thanked the creators, cast, and crew in a statement regarding the series not being renewed for a third season.

“While we are not proceeding with a third season of Raised by Wolves, we are beyond grateful to the stellar cast and crew, our creators Aaron Guzikowski, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and the entire team at Scott Free Productions, for their beautiful artistry and unique ability to immerse fans into the world of Kepler-22b,” the statement read via Deadline.

Before the official announcement, some fans became aware of the show’s potential cancellation from Salim’s posting on social media. According to Deadline, the British actor announced the series’ end with hopes of it finding a new home.

In the statement, Salim made reference to the changes happening at HBO Max underneath the newly-minted Warner Bros. Discovery leadership. He states that many shows are not being able to complete their stories, and is hoping the fans will campaign for the series to live out its final season on a new platform.

“So I’m asking for action,” Salim wrote via Deadline, “I see the pure love, passion and questions (too too many) that arise DAILY on Twitter for RBW. I’m now asking that you continue to, and with even more vigor, show that genuine love here, there, and everywhere as we search for that new home.”

Both seasons of Raised by Wolves are available to stream on HBO Max.
