The upcoming streaming platform HBO Max will be adding a new comedy series to its ranks courtesy of the mind of B.J. Novak, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new comedy program is set to be titled Young People and is the creation of Novak. Novak famously portrayed Ryan Howard on the successful NBC comedy The Office while also providing writing and directing contributions to the critically acclaimed program. Since then, Novak has worked as writer for other comedies such as The Mindy Project and a role in Quentin Tarantino’s (Pulp Fiction) 2009 film Inglourious Basterds. This HBO Max collaboration marks the second series from Novak to be picked up recently with FX giving his anthology project a series order.
Young People follows a group of six Brooklyn roommates living together in their 20s as they experience their first tastes of adulthood following college. Currently, there is no cast attached to the project. However, HBO Max has set up a multi-script commitment to Novak’s project. Young People will add to a long list of original programs for HBO Max such as the anthology comedy series Love Life starring Anna Kendrick.
Given the Novak created series is in the beginning stages of its development, there is no announced premiere date nor production start date for Young People. HBO Max is set to launch on May 27 at $11.99 (USD) per month and will give television fans access to a large vault of original HBO content and streaming access to series such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Big Bang Theory to compose its 10,000 hours of streaming content.
