HBO Limited Series ‘Scenes From A Marriage’ Features Michelle Williams And Oscar Isaac

HBO’s Scenes From A Marriage is set to star Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine, The Greatest Showman) and Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series is an adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s classic miniseries and will be executive produced by Williams and Isaac as well.

Written and directed by Hagai Levi (Our Boys, The Affair), the adaptation covers themes of love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage and divorce by following an American couple, characters played by Williams and Isaac.

Levi executive produces with Michael Ellenberg (Tell-Tale) via Media Res, Lars Blomgren (The Bridge), Williams, Isaac, Daniel Bergman (Stimulantia), Blair Breard (The Drop) and Amy Herzog (4000 Miles). Media Res and Endeavor Content co-produces the series.

Bergman wrote and directed the original Scenes From A Marriage, starring Liv Ullmann (The Emigrants) and Erland Josephson (Cries and Whispers), which aired on 1973 Swedish television. This series was shown in six parts, but was condensed for a more dramatic release; it debuted in 1974 in the U.S. Bergman often drew from his own experiences, including his relationship with Ulmann. His teleplay tells the story of a deteriorating marriage.

The project joins other high-profile limited series from HBO including The Plot Against America, Watchmen and Sharp Objects as well as highly anticipated series We Are Who We Are, The Undoing and The Third Day.
