According to a Quibi press release, the streaming platform released the trailer for new raunchy comedy Dummy, staring Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Twilight). Kendrick plays Cody on the show that centers on her character befriending her boyfriend’s sex doll. The series also stars Meredith Hagner (Search Party) as the sex doll named Barbra, and Donal Logue (Ghost Rider, Blade) as Cody’s Boyfriend, Dan.
Kendrick has embraced many comedic roles in the past, having her be a natural fit for this off-beat comedy. Her acting background originated in theatre with her role as Dinah in High Society on Broadway nominated for a Tony Award, the second youngest ever to do so. In 2009, Kendrick was nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in Up In The Air. After this, her 2012 role in the Pitch Perfect and then the following movies, received multiple Teen Choice Awards.
Dummy is apparently loosely based off creator Cody Heller’s (Wilfred) relationship with fiancé Dan Harmon (Rick & Morty, Community). The female buddy is a 10 episode comedy, with each episode being under 10 minutes long, as are the series under Quibi’s platform. Along with Heller, Kendrick and Tricia Brock (30 Rock, The Walking Dead) executive produce the series, with Brock directing as well; and Wiip producing.
